Summer Youth Workshops:

Gretna Little Theatre is offering a summer youth workshop that will feature the Peanuts Gang characters, for the youngest applicants, and the gruesome tale of Sweeney Todd (without music) with Sweeney, the barber, Mrs. Lovett, the pie maker, Johanna Oakley and Mark Ingles, the sweethearts, and a complete cast of London merchants and officers for middle and high school students.

Application, registration, and basic audition will be held Monday and, after school, from 4 – 6, May !6 and 17, at the Gretna Center for the Arts, Main Street in Gretna.

Peanuts Playhouse is a series of comic situations adapted from the popular strip by Charles Schultz.
A String of Pearls is the original 1847 play by George Pitt, London playwright, both adapted for youth performance by Janina Shoemaker, Artistic Director.
There is no fee charged for this activity, and no previous experience necessary. Parents will be invited to help with the double bill production. Production dates have been scheduled for July 8 & 9. Rehearsal schedules will be posted for May and June.

Last year’s youth workshop presented The Light in the Mill, a serious melodrama, and Rikki Tikki Tavi, the beloved story of the mongoose that overpowered the cobras. The first youth production of GLT was Intrigue at the Music Hall, (2010), then No, No, A Million Times No in 2012. Following seasons presented The Doll That Came to Life, and Hansel & Gretel. Many of the young actors from these shows have subsequently appeared in main stage plays, and a few have gone on to college to major in the arts.
